Mailcow Aliases - Safari Web Extension
Effective Date: February 9, 2026

Mailcow Aliases does not collect, store, sell, or transmit any of your personal data to any third party. The only data exchanged is between your browser and the Mailcow instance you configure.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Mailcow Aliases ("the Extension"), a Safari Web Extension developed by Jay Collett ("Developer", "we", "us", "our"), handles information when you install and use the Extension. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

By installing and using the Extension, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be explicit about what we do not do:

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The Extension stores configuration data locally on your device using Safari's built-in extension storage (browser.storage.local). This data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to the Developer or any third party. Locally stored data includes:

You may delete all locally stored data at any time by removing the Extension from Safari.

4. Network Communication

The Extension communicates exclusively with the Mailcow server that you configure. This communication is initiated solely by your actions (creating, modifying, or deleting aliases) and occurs directly between your browser and your Mailcow instance.

The Extension does not communicate with:

We strongly recommend configuring your Mailcow instance with HTTPS to ensure all communication between your browser and your server is encrypted in transit.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension does not integrate with, depend on, or transmit data to any third-party services. There are no third-party SDKs, libraries, or frameworks embedded in the Extension that collect or process user data.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, rent, license, or otherwise disclose any user data to any third party for any purpose. Because we do not collect any user data, there is no data to share.

In the event of a legal request, we would be unable to provide user data because we do not possess any.

7. Data Security

Your configuration data (including your Mailcow API key) is stored locally on your device using Safari's sandboxed extension storage, which is protected by macOS security mechanisms including App Sandbox and Hardened Runtime. The Extension does not have access to data from other extensions or applications.

8. Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). Because the Extension collects no personal information from any user, it is compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations.

9. International Users

Because the Extension does not collect or transmit any personal data, there are no cross-border data transfers. All data remains on your device and your self-hosted Mailcow server. The Extension is designed to be compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable data protection laws.

10. Your Rights

Under applicable data protection laws, you have certain rights regarding your personal data. Because we do not collect any personal data, these rights are inherently satisfied. You maintain full control over all data stored locally by the Extension and may delete it at any time by removing the Extension from Safari.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

12. Open Source

The Extension's source code is available for review, allowing you to independently verify our privacy claims.
